Garden

Now that we are officially into summer and (hopefully) the risk of frost has passed, I planted all the veggie and herb plants that I got for a bargain at the Friends School Plant sale a few weeks ago. I put the herbs in a planter this year as last year the basil and mint fairly took over the garden and I wanted more space for experimenting with new vegetables and growing salad greens. There's not much to see yet, but I planted heirloom tomatoes, bell peppers, chilli peppers, eggplant, zucchini, yellow squash, beans, lettuce, arugula, swiss chard and in the herb planter parsley, basil, thyme, and rosemary. Fingers crossed for a bumper crop!

The shrubs we planted in the garden last summer all survived the winter and have done really well because of the early spring. When we took the screens out of the upstairs screen porch (more about that later) I took these cool aerial pictures of the garden, and you can see the roses growing like crazy. The lilac also bloomed this year and smelled and looked lovely.
