Sleeper Porch Project

We have a great old sleeper porch on the back of the house, which is basically a screened in balcony off the office where people would sleep in the summer back in the days before a/c. Thinking it would be fun to sleep out there on breezy nights, we decided to clean it up and put on a new coat of paint. Well, five minutes into this project we discover that the screens are not dirty as we had thought, but rusted and need to be replaced, so the job suddenly got a lot bigger!

Replacing the screens meant prying the moulding off the walls, then cutting out the old screen and stapling in a new sheet of mesh before nailing back the moulding. With 4 to do, we eventually worked out a good technique.

We had ripped up the old carpet from the floor and had to sand off a few coats of peeling paint and old carpet glue before we could prime and repaint it. The floor is sloped and has holes to allow water to run out, as it can get wet during rain storms.

Then it was priming and painting time...

Primed

And painted
